Eskrima

Eskrima, sometimes referred to as Kali or Arnis, is the national martial art of the Philippines. The three terms are roughly interchangeable umbrella terms for the traditional martial arts of the Philippines ("Filipino Martial Arts", or FMA), which emphasise weapon-based fighting with sticks, knives, and improvised weapons, as well as empty hand techniques.

Nga Totara Dojo hosts a small but dedicated group of Eskrimadors. Our art is based principally on the Diamondback system and includes elements of Warriors Eskrima as well.

Our weapon work covers:

Single stick (solo baston)

Double stick (doble baston)

Sword

Stick/sword and dagger  (espada y daga)

Staff (sibat)

Flexible weapons including Tabak-Toyok (nunchaku)

These are complemented by a range of empty-hand striking and grappling techniques.

All ages and abilities are welcome!
